Rural Initiative

Ensure no person is left behind or disconnected from our community’s success.  Work to outline the urgency of these issues and realistic tactics to accomplish improvement in Berkeley County’s serious rates of poverty, low incomes, and disconnection in rural areas and older communities.

Infrastructure

The Berkeley Chamber advocates having a thriving and growing economy which essentially requires a safe and well-maintained infrastructure. This region is uniquely positioned along two major interstates and the South Carolina State Ports Authority, our industries rely heavily on our infrastructure system to get their goods to market.  The Berkeley Chamber supports passing long-term, sustainable transportation funding to fix our roads and bridges and to expand economic corridors.

Existing Industries

Berkeley County is a complex local economy of historic businesses and very new emerging enterprises.  Berkeley County is home to some of the largest employers in the state and some very small companies, and a range of sectors facing various markets, competitors, and challenges. Berkeley County must work to maintain those quality jobs they bring and the larger value that businesses provide to the community and economic development advancement of the area.

Workforce

Our mission is to create, attract, and sustain a world-class workforce to meet the needs of the region’s existing and target industries. We hope to achieve this through working with the education community, local workforce partners, and area businesses. A skilled workforce with 21st-Century skills is critical to our area’s well-being and business success; and therefore, the quality of our education system is of the utmost importance.
