MONCKS CORNER, SC –The Berkeley County School District is asking for the support of the community by getting out on the course to support public education in Berkeley County. The Ken York office of Edward Jones Investments and Berkeley County School District will host the second annual “Edward Jones Stuff the Bus” charity golf tournament at Crowfield Golf & Country Club on June 14. All proceeds benefit the District’s “Stuff the Bus Berkeley!” supply drive.
The “Stuff the Bus Berkeley!” program is a drive that helps raise funds and supplies for students in need. It has been a huge success in past years and would not be possible without the support of local community members and businesses. The goal for this year’s drive is to raise more supplies than ever before!
“The Stuff the Bus golf tournament is a great way for members of the community to interact with the principals and administration of our district,” said Rodney Thompson, superintendent. “This is the second year we are holding the tournament and we are looking to make this year’s more bigger and better than ever.”
The June 14 golf tournament allows for players not only to enjoy a nice round of golf but to also give them the opportunity to give back to our students. The cost is $75/player or $300/foursome. Registration forms can be picked up at the district office or done online. To register online, please visit the golf tournament’s website, www.STBGolf2013.com.
“Community members need to support the schools in order to make sure that we ensure our children a good education with adequate resources and supplies,” stated Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Ken York. “We are proud to support the academic development of young minds in the community. By supporting Berkeley County Schools and the “Stuff the Bus Berkeley!” program, we are providing individual students with the necessary resources and supplies to begin or continue their learning and development.”
There are several ways that community members can get involved with the “Stuff the Bus Berkeley!” campaign including
- Individuals can gather and donate school supplies for the drive,
- Businesses can host a drop-off box at their own location for school supplies,
- Individuals can purchase supplies at Wal-Mart and place them in the “Stuff the Bus Berkeley!” box at the store,
- Individuals can purchase supplies at any location and place them in the “Stuff the Bus Berkeley!” box at any Berkeley County school or participating location,
- Individuals can volunteer to help out at the Community Rally Day or the Edward Jones Stuff the Bus Golf Tournament.
The second event of the campaign will be the first Shaggin’ Under the Stars event held on July 18, 2013. Join us for a night filled with music by local band Custom 4+2. Bring your picnic basket and dancing shoes for a fun-filled evening. The event will be held at the Old Santee Canal Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased through the district office.
“Stuff the Bus Berkeley!” ends on Saturday, August 3, 2013 with the third annual Community Rally Day. The rally will be held at the Wal-Mart stores in Summerville, Moncks Corner, and Goose Creek. Bring your extra school supplies to be donated and help the district “stuff the buses”. Come out and enjoy the music of the local high school marching bands and let the kids have fun getting their faces painted or making a balloon animal, all while helping local children in need!
