Dear Chamber Member:

The Berkeley Chamber will be holding our annual Salute to Small Business luncheon in August. Each year the Chamber recognizes small businesses by promoting the different areas of achievements they have accomplishment, last year it was businesses that diversified their products and/or services.  Small Business is truly the backbone of America and exemplifies entrepreneurship, determination, leadership and commitment. This year, we want to recognize your business and its outstanding accomplishments and contributions to our community.

The types of businesses we will be honoring:

New Emerging Business

New enterprises play a significant role in job creation and the overall economic development of our region.  To qualify, a business must have:

  • Opened a business in Berkeley County within the last 3 years
  • Demonstrated diversity of offerings by expanding their product lines and/or services
  • Increased job opportunities by continuing to create new jobs and employing a new set of employees
  • Revised their business model to become more competitive in the marketplace
  • Made strides toward becoming a leader and trendsetter by offering time and/or expertise to help make Berkeley County a favorable place to live, work and conduct business

Small Business

Small business promotes entrepreneurship, job creation and the local tax base.  Small businesses are often referred to as the “backbone” of society. To qualify, a business must have:

  • 49 employees or less
  • Demonstrated a proven commitment to serving its customers and community
  • Positively impacted the economic development and status of Berkeley County
  • Illustrated innovation while displaying an ability to adapt to the rapidly changing marketplace
  • Made strides toward becoming a leader and trendsetter by offering time and/or expertise to help make Berkeley County a favorable place to live, work and conduct business
  • Franchises may be considered if individually owned

Corporate Entity

Corporate entities offer significant economic benefits to our region, including additional job creation and products/services with a scope reaching beyond our local area.  To qualify, a business must have:

  • 50 or more employees located within Berkeley County (even if headquarters is located elsewhere)
  • Offer products and/or services with a scope reaching beyond Berkeley County
  • Made a proven impact on the Berkeley County’s overall economic footprint
  • A proven history of supporting local community activities and programs in Berkeley County

Non-Profit Organization

Non-profit organizations enhance the landscape of our region by providing services, support and funding for programs which otherwise may go unnoticed.  To qualify, a business must have:

  • Demonstrated sustainability by operating in Berkeley County for five years or more
  • Bridged a services gap by offering support and/or services which are not currently provided for by the government or another private entity or business
  • A proven track record of results and positive impact on our local Berkeley County communities
  • Success stories demonstrating how people served by the organization improved their lives and/or circumstances as a direct result of that organization’s assistance

If your business fits into one of these categories, please take a moment and complete the nomination form. The contributions that local businesses have made to the ongoing economic stability of our region are very important and deserving of recognition. We will be highlighting all of the nominees on our website and in our event press releases. Therefore, it is very important that we receive your nomination as soon as possible so we can be sure your business is included in our strong promotion of this event. Our Salute to Small Business luncheon is well attended by community and business leaders, elected officials and professionals from across the region.  This is an excellent opportunity for your business to gain additional exposure in front of a captive audience.
