When giving advice to a job candidate, many people prefer being nice over being candid. That doesn’t help the person better prepare for a job, writes Jessica Lee, APCO Worldwide’s vice president for talent acquisition. Lee shares the story of a young woman who thanked her for being frank about the drawbacks of her speaking style. “It would be hard for people to look past the way she spoke and really dig into her skills and smarts,” Lee writes. “… [Don’t] be nice; be helpful.”
