Program Announced for 2016 Administrative Professionals Day Conference at Trident Technical College
March 23, 2016…Trident Technical College Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development is pleased to announce the program lineup for the 22nd Annual Administrative Professionals Day Conference, “Cultivating Change by Fostering Connectivity.” The 2016 conference is scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in The College Center on the Main Campus of Trident Technical College in North Charleston. Registration fees range from $109-$149 per person.

This one-day event features guest speakers from the community and faculty from Trident Technical College in addition to a gourmet lunch catered by Duvall Catering and Event Design. Antonio Robinson serves as conference emcee. Rodney Barrentine delivers the National Anthem as part of the opening of the conference. A breakfast buffet is also provided.

Guest speakers on the conference agenda include:

  • Larry Collett, Founder and CEO, netGALAXY Studios; “Mobile Technology—The Future of Mobile Devices and Apps”
  • Ellis Grossman, Chef, Culinary Institute of Charleston, Trident Technical College; “30-Minute Meals and Energy-Based Foods”
  • Carolyn Hunter, president of C&A Unlimited, Inc. dba McDonald’s; “Be the Best You Ever”
  • Ray Snyder, Business and Management Instructor, Trident Technical College; “DISC Profile Assessment and Analysis”

Who should attend this conference? Those encouraged to register include administrative assistants, receptionists, paralegals, office managers, executive assistants and all support staff. Individuals who are currently in these positions or those interested in branching into this area would find this year’s conference very beneficial for their professional development as well as provide them with opportunities to network with their peers.

Early registrations are being accepted now through March 31 at a reduced per person rate of $119. Regular registration is $149 per person. A discounted rate of $119 per person is available to IAAP members. A special group rate of $109 per person is available for groups including five or more registrations (group registrations must register with a registration specialist by phone or in person). SC Works Trident On the Job Training (OJT) ProgramOften when looking for the perfect employee you will find someone who could be right but is missing the proper training or skills needed. We can help you!

Among our many services that we offer employers we have a program called On-the-Job Training (OJT). This program is designed specifically to help save you the time, energy and money it takes to train a new employee. We not only help you screen potential employees for the right fit but we offer to train them while reimbursing up to 90% of the trainee’s wages during the period of time needed to complete their training.

The OJT program is funded through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), which is a federally funded program to help create a skilled and educated workforce while helping to increase employment opportunities within the region.

SC Works Trident offers a variety of other services for employers. Some of our other services include:

  • Labor Market Information – Information on prevailing wages, in-demand occupations, employment and income statistics, new workforce developments and so much more.
  • Recruiting and Staff Services – We can help with advertising job openings, the application process, schedule recruitment interviews as well as career fairs and can help facilitate pre-hire testing sessions throughout the tri-county region or at your offices.
  • WorkKeys Testing – This is a job skills assessment system which measures real world skills and abilities that are critical to job success.

  • Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Certification

Topics covered span the American Revolution time period through the Civil War, Reconstruction and the Civil Rights era into present day. Feb. 23, 2015…Trident Technical College Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development is pleased to announce the program lineup for the 21st Annual Administrative Professionals Day Conference. The 2015 conference is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in The College Center on the Main Campus of Trident Technical College in North Charleston. Registration fees range from $109-$149 per person.

Development is pleased to offer through its Kids’ College program, a variety of culinary classes
designed specifically for children. Parents are welcome to join the class and assist their child. All
classes meet on the Main Campus of Trident Technical College at 7000 Rivers Ave. in North
Charleston.

Spring 2015 classes include:

  • Cupcake Heaven: Let them eat cupcakes…and cupcakes! Decorate beautiful cupcakes for
    Valentine’s Day! Class for ages 8-16 meets on Feb. 7, 2015 from 10 a.m.-noon; costs $39 per
    student.
  • Chopped: Just like the TV show, campers are challenged to take a mystery basket of ingredients
    and turn them into a dish that is judged on creativity, presentation and taste with minimal time
    to plan and execute. Class for ages 8-11 meets on Feb. 28, 2015 from 9 a.m.-noon; class for ages
    12-16 meets on March 28, 2015 from 9 a.m.-noon. Each class costs $49 per student.
  • Easter Bunny’s Bake Shop: If your children are eagerly hippity hopping around the house
    waiting for Easter, come to TTC’s Bunny Bake Shop to create sweets for the holiday season.
    Decorate Easter bunny treats such as crispy egg nesters, chicks and more. Class for ages 8-11
    meets on March 28, 2015 from 10 a.m.-noon; costs $39 per student.

Google for Seniors Free Internet Training - New Date - Nov. 5!

On Nov. 5, from 8 a.m. to noon, Google working with the local Red Cross and its volunteers, will host a FREE Computer/Internet Workshop and Luncheon for adults age 55+ at the Train Depot in Moncks Corner.

Experts will help participants learn helpful tools for keeping in touch with family and friends and for becoming more Internet savvy. The day will include a presentation, one-on-one help and a free catered lunch.

Summerville Communications – the Berkeley Independent, Goose Creek Gazette, and Summerville Journal Scene – is hosting the Lowcountry Healthy Living Expo on Monday, Oct. 13, and you are invited!

The event will take place from 4-7 p.m. on the campus of Charleston Southern University, in the school’s dining room. Admission is free.

Berkeley County Schools Awarded Blue Ribbons

Berkeley County Schools Awarded Blue RibbonsBERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The United States Department of Education announced today that Hanahan Elementary School and Hanahan Middle School were chosen in the 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. Hanahan Elementary was one of only five for school throughout the state to be honored and Hanahan Middle is the only middle school in the state to be nominated for the prestigious award.

Hanahan Middle follows its Berkeley County neighbor, Marrington Middle, which won in 2012, as the only two South Carolina middle schools to be honored as Blue Ribbon Schools in the past sixteen years. In 2010, Howe Hall Arts Infused Magnet School was honored with the Blue Ribbon for its achievements in the elementary school category.
